水基涂料体系的消光机理与溶剂型体系相似。由于该体系含有相当多的挥发物，在干燥过程中产生明显的表面收缩，形成一种微粗糙表面结构把反射光散射出去，从而起到消光作用。使用高效SYLOID系列消光剂可以很容易得到高质量、无蓝雾、低光泽度的透明涂膜。对于所有含大量挥发物的涂料体系，高孔隙的SYLOIDC系列是消光效率最佳的产品。

当多孔的硅胶消光剂用在聚合物分散体配方时、高孔隙率的硅胶消光剂会把水从分散体中吸附出来、使得已分散好的聚合物颗粒发生凝聚、导致形成很难看的、起粒粒的漆面。

In solvent system, the molecular weight and molecular shape of the synthesized resin are small, and the resin is easily filled into the pores of the matting agent. However, the particles of some water dispersions are relatively dense, and can not enter the pores of the matting agent, thus filling the pores with water. During the drying process, the moisture may remain in the pores or evaporate. The air or water left in the pores is different from that of the resin and causes the film to whiten.
